This is the first newsletter for sneaky submission and this will constantly be an ever evolving beast. Bear with me as I adapt, adjust and change the format for this newsletter.
Like all firsts, there is a degree of fear and trepidation in this inaugural adventure. What is this newsletter anyway? It's my attempt to vomit out my thoughts on Brazilian jiu jitsu and for those thoughts to coalesce into something meaningful and insightful regarding bjj and grappling. If it becomes a constant stream of memes and a way for all of us to have a laugh at bjj, I'm here for that too.
NERD'S FIGHTING
There has been much written on the topic of Mark Zuckerberg vs. Elon Musk. It has become a bigger and bigger focus over the last few weeks as Zuckerberg has now been awarded his blue belt. News outlets have gushed over the training that both these guys have been involved in. Musk training with GSP and Zuckerberg training with Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski. The fact of the matter is, if these guys are gonna fight, it's gonna be a complete shitshow. We will see a lot of White belt waltzing and either of them setting up haymakers that lead to nowheresville. The fact of the matter is: MMA, kickboxing and BJJ are arts that take time to get good.
My proposal is simple: Let them train for a specified amount of time (like a year) to get good and then we can get something worth watching. BTW, who wants to bet that these guys are spazzy as hell?
GORDON RYAN Vs. JON JONES
Let me put my dislike of Gordon Ryan and Jon Jones on the shelf for a moment. These are two very skilled grappling practitioners at their peak ability: https://twitter.com/mmamania/status/1688819946594476032?s=46&t=x13wlU6j_0CD1Xa981bLew
I love the speed, skill and agility of these two pros at their finest. The flow between their moves is just amazing to watch and it’s just a joy to watch these two just match each other in terms of grappling skills.
TATIANA SUAREZ
Of all the fights on Saturday last week, I was impressed by this takedown from Tatiana Suarez: https://www.reddit.com/r/bjj/comments/15js669/slick_grappling_from_tatiana_suarez_vs_jessica/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1
The way she shoots for the low single is just all class. The way she throws the leg over and moves into side control and trapping the hips is just such a slick transition. The way Suarez bridges her moves from wrestling to BJJ is so seamless that Andrade had no answers to Suarez’s grappling.
